so i've been nervous about announcing this...

just because well...the last time I had a really marvellous, wonderful type job offer, it was the one in London, England, that they reneged on 48 hours before I was supposed to fly off to England.

The one has nothing to do with the other, except, well, in my head. But you all know how things in your head can solidify into permanent responses.

Anyways, that's irrelevant, because now that I've actually done work for them (a press release), I feel confident in telling all of you that....I am now an employee of Looney Labs, the company which has brought you Fluxx, Chrononauts, Nanofictionary, Cosmic Coasters, Q-turn, and yes, Scott, Icehouse (we'll talk).

My position has been titled 'Publicity Specialist', and I'll be doing a lot of the carpentry to the publicity architecture; executive decisions will be made about who and how to contact people, and then I'll be going and doing the actual contacting and following and nagging and getting articles published and collected and on the web so the site will show people how fabulous Looney Labs are, and more of that nature. It's a fabulous chance to learn about the flackery side (heh) of the media business before going into the hard hitting journalism side (one hopes). It's also the first chance I've had, so far, to get *paid* to (occasionally) write - doing the press release yesterday morning was actually a lot of fun, sitting down and writing according to all those things I did learn studying journalism, but combining them with my copywriting/marketing skills was actually a very enjoyable challenge.

In the meantime, the Looneys. have sent me a copy of the not-yet-but-soon-to be-released EcoFluxx, and I will hopefully have it in my hands by the end of the week (but you can never tell, with the cross-border stuff). So let's give it a week for safety, and who would like to get together, probably next Tuesday, at the Wheat Sheaf (King and Bathurst), to help me get a grasp on this brand new Fluxx variant, before I have to shill it to the waiting public? ;-)

...and thanks, Kristin, for this great opportunity. It means a lot to me.

Are they not adorable? Who could fail to love the piratical penguins? :) I just wish I knew who to credit for the image.

Congrats! That sounds like a fabulous job, and one that you're fabulously suited to!

What time on Tuesday are you thinking of play-testing? I'm very tempted to come give it a whirl.

Cool!

A new Fluxx version- also cool! (I've fallen out of the habbit of reading wunderland.com as religiously as I did when I was an erstwhile Lab Rabbit...)

...and I've just added myself to [info]wunderland_syn, for more better looney goodness.

it's too bad my partner and I aren't terribly local (KW), and also sort of occupied this Tuesday, otherwise I expect we'd show up too.

there's actually another one coming out shortly, called Family Fluxx, which is a smaller deck, and more oriented towards short little games that play well with little ones (while keeping the stuff that made Fluxx appealing to adults). I think it's a good idea; there are so few games out there that can really be played by adults and kids together, with them all having a chance at winning, but Fluxx's occasional randomness means there's a good split between stratgy and chance.

KW isn't *that* far away; but I'm not terribly enamoured of the place (my mother recently told me I should not date anyone from the place again). That said, if you know the city, and know the game stores, and are willing to return to demo rabbiting, we could work something out. There's a group at UW called Fluxx Fanatixx that would probably show up to help with a demo as well, but the problem (as I recall right now) is that most KW game stores have drifted away from general gaming (with an emphasis on rpgs) and into being highly strategy and wargame stores.

mmm... games-demoing sounds tempting. If I weren't full-time employed, I'd probably do it.

Maybe if I get fired. :)

Congratulations! As for next Tuesday... well, I haven't played the original game, so I'd probably be useless at play-testing the variant. And I think I'm already booked anyway. If I'm wrong, and decide to give it a whirl (assuming that you think I'd be of any use, not being familiar with the original and all) I'll let you know.

I can teach you the game in 15s. Really.

And the wings are really good at the Wheat Sheaf; you'll see why wing night at Orwell's means nothing to me now :-)
